Emma Gardner: Approaching inclusion from a creative and a human aspect
In this week’s episode I speak to Emma Gardner, Co Founder: Born Equal Consults | With Not For | NYM Mag.
Join the conversation to hear us chat about how we better understand and address exclusion and discrimination, and how we can approach it from both a creative and a human aspect.
Emma also shares her thoughts about the power of storytelling and why representation matters in the journey to create a more inclusive workplace.
Key takeaways include:
- The importance of practising a questioning mindset
- Why lived experience is as important as qualifications in being able to create impact
- The prevalence of hidden disabilities that people may not be disclosing
- Why good intentions don’t always result in good impact
- The value of building a good network and connections
Emma is an entrepreneur, parent & carer of her Disabled daughter, who has been the catalyst for her work in recent years.
She’s worked in the creative industries for 20+ years collaborating with charities, agencies & clients on the importance of inclusion, & how to approach it within businesses.
She is now co-founder of Born Equal Consults, a human-centric Equity & Inclusion Consultancy that leads with lived experience, as well as co-founder of With Not For, a talent agency representing Disabled creatives.
Last year she also co-founded NYM magazine, working with Disabled people & their allies to set new benchmarks for representation within media & society.
